My wife has been on Eggheads and Pointless and did well. Got to playing for the cash in Pointless and were close with a '1' answer. She and her partner were pissed off because during the 60 second 'think time' they actually discussed what turned out to be a pointless answer. The prize money was in excess of £7k!

Mariner bloke I used to play cribbage with in a pub in Dorset went on one.
Guy was as sharp as a razor - used to drive super tankers (a term that royally pissed him off).
They murdered him - think it might have been 15 - 1 but he said it was clear from the questions they has already decided who would win.

A bloke I knew went on Man oh Man and won. He sang Shaggy’s Mr Boombastic. The price was a Ducati bike. Had to sell it as he couldn’t afford the insurance.

My French teacher on Who wants to be a millionaire twice but never got past fastest finger.
My Dad on Who wants to be a millionaire Xmas day. Won 64k

A girl I used to work with went on The Chase. She ended up getting into the tabloids basically because she was fit. She was called a “Worldie”, which she was absolutely mortified by.

She went for big cash and got caught by the fat bloke.

Not a quiz show but i was on style challenge in the mid 90’s. John Leslie was the host and a really nice guy.
Was surprised just how sweary TV bods are, every other word is fuck.
Was fun getting recognised for a couple of weeks as well.

Some obscure TV quizes/gameshows mentioned on this thread. But who remembers 'Shafted', hosted by the charismatic Robert Kilroy Silk? Alas the show barely lasted one series and was cursed to be unappreciated in its time. I mean, it's a mystery why it never succeeded...

Was on a game show called Rent Free presented by Richard Bacon. Won a luxury apartment rent free for a year, was my last year at university.
At the time it was the biggest prize the BBC ever gave away but because they used it to launch BBC choice no one ever saw it :)

No, and not a quiz, but my mate came joint first in Come Dine With Me.
He's a budding muso and they used a bit of his music in the end part. Some how it got picked up by some overseas telly and he's got a following in some far off gaff. Used the prize money to help finance his music. Loves Paul Weller and all that mod stuff.
And if I haven't bored you enough. Another mates daughter did Ann application for that Total.Wipe Out.
The telly people rang him and he thought it was wind up. Reckons it was his Tommy Copper Impression that got him through.
Flew him out to Argentina where it was filmed and he said it was a non stop piss up from beginning to End. He didn't win as he esa fat fella.

I went to see a filming of ‘Deal or No Deal’. Got split up from my mates by the production team (not sure why) and was placed in the audience next to the contestant’s wife. He was ‘Colin the taxi driver from Coventry’.
Every box he got rid of was a big money one, which was followed by a distressed ‘ooooh Colin’ from his Wife. He left with £1. Ooooh Colin indeed.

Yep that's the one., Teclan Whittock or something. With a name like that it's hard not to stand out!
I was seen on Superstars if that's any good. I jumped over the fence after Kevin Keegan fell off his bike so I went for an autograph but was overtaken by about 200 other kids in the dash! Always was slow me!
